Everett Hodge Community Center – Garden’s In!

The children planted their 4 x 4 raised bed last weekend as part of the ‘Make A Difference Day: Keeping it Green!’ Here are photos of their Kale and Marigold’s. Hugh Cummings (of Hugh-Name-It Builders) got the Rain Barrel in right on time. The water captured is enough to feed the garden for weeks!

Here is Ward 4 council member Shirley Whitlock’s speech for the children last weekend:

Kingston Make a Difference Day
Ward 4 Council Member – Shirley Whitlock

First I want to thank God for this opportunity to say good morning to you. Truly this is the start of a great day. This day has been set aside to remind us that we are responsible to make a difference in another person’s life, in our neighborhoods, and in our city. When I think of making a difference, I don’t see it as a one day affair.

I see it as something we should all be doing every day. We should always be looking for a way to use our God given talents and gifts to help another person make it in life. I know it is said it takes a village to raise a child; well it takes a community to build a city. And if we will do this on more regular basics we will find much less hunger, homelessness, youth crime, and uneducated children. So I say to you, enjoy yourself to day, but don’t forget tomorrow what the real meaning of making a difference is. Together we stand, but divided we fall. The difference begins with us.
